Working With UK Power Networks

Thameslink F425 – Williams Way Depot Substation

The Summer of 2015 saw the arrival of the first of the new trains into the purpose built Three Bridges Depot at Crawley.

RJ Power Rail provided the most compelling offer, successfully secured the contract working on behalf of UK Power Networks for all the Electrical cable terminations and containment of the HV and DC cables within the new Williams Way Substation serving the new depot.

“I would like to take this moment in thanking RJ Power Group for all the works that they carried out for UK Power Networks at Williams Way Substation. We managed to achieve all key commissioning/energising dates with the various HV and DC switchgear installations within the Substation, which was mainly down to the support and the proactive attitude of RJ Power Groups team. The site management and on site work force were a credit to RJ Power Group throughout the time they were on site. They worked together with us on the cable management installation and design.

All the hurdles that were met along the way were approached with a positive attitude. UKPN have now handed the Substation over to the maintainer who were very happy with the finished product. Thanks again and I hope we will be working again together in the not to distant future.”

Challenges & Solutions

RJ Power Group worked with UKPN site management on the challenging task to ensure that the routing of the cabling between equipment met the required specification within the substation and did not conflict with other cabling required coming in from the depot or other cabling within the substation.

All commissioning dates were achieved to the programmed dates.
